UCF Student Veterans and Dependents:

The VA has provided UCF with instructions regarding the reporting of course modality for Basic Housing Allowance (BAH) purposes. Per the VA, courses listed as anything other than face to face or mixed-mode (M) formats will be considered distance learning.

To check Semester’s course modality:

  1. Look at the second digit of a course section in the registration profile.
  2. ENC 1101 Section CW61, is recognized as distance learning or web-based modality. This is because the second digit is listed as “W”.
  3. ENC 1101 Section C061 or ENC 1101 Section CM62 are recognized as lecture formats.
  4. Mixed-mode (M) or face to face formats, with documentation in the class notes stating “taught as remote instruction format due to COVID-19” the VA will consider as lecture format for BAH purposes.

Exceptions:

Course sections listed as web but normally lecture format (mixed-mode or face to face) will need documentation from the College’s dean, department chair, or director of advising on university letterhead, stating the course was changed to distance learning due to remote instruction for the Spring 2021 term.

Fall Semester is could be challenging to find face to face courses to meet BAH requirements. Please be aware there are LOTS of reasons that course modalities get changed to a distance learning format (Web, Video Streaming, etc.), especially during the summer semester. Changes may not necessarily be the result of COVID-19.

Any questions regarding course modalities for BAH purposes, please contact Joshua “JJ” Johnson at Joshua.Johnson@ucf.edu.
