Veterans Month – November 2022


Every November the Office of Military and Veteran Student Success, UCF’s Community Veterans History Project, Air Force and Army ROTCs celebrates UCF Veterans’ Month!  Below is a current listing of events dedicated to educating and honor our UCF Student Veterans!

  • Sunday, November 6th through Thursday, November 10th:
    Honoring Our Student Veterans Week! – UCF Memory Mall

    • Sunday, November 6 through Wednesday, November 10, 2022
    • Approximately 1374 American Flags planted
    • Each flag represents one student veterans enrolled at UCF for the Fall 2022 Semester
  • Wednesday, November 9th at 10:00 a.m.:
    Veterans Salute & Purple Heart Proclamation: Honoring Veterans Wounded in Battle 

    • UCF Veterans Commemoration Site, location click here.
    • Salute to all Veterans in honor of Veterans Day which will include flag raising, playing of taps, and Purple Heart Proclamation
    • UCF is one of five institutions in the State of Florida with this designation for their dedication to veterans, active-duty military and family members.

  • Thursday, November 10th at 7:00 p.m.
    Student Veterans of America @ UCF Chapter Meet-Up at Tactical Brewing

    • Meet your Student Veteran Executive Board and interact with other student veterans
    • RSVP is not required, but encouraged to seating

  • Tuesday, November 15th at Noon
    UCF Military Appreciation Pep Rally – Student Union

    • Join UCF Student Government Association and the Military and Veterans Student Success to get pumped up for the Military Appreciation Game on Saturday, November 19th as we play Navy!

    Veterans History Project Story Day: UCF Emergency Service Veterans

    • “Story Day” with UCF Veterans currently working in emergency services
    • VHP Member will with veterans to collect, preserve and honor their stories

  • Wednesday, November 16th at 4:30 p.m.
    Florida France Soldiers Stories Panel & Workshop

    • John C. Hitt Library: Room 402
    • Panel discussion and workshop with panelists
      • UCF History Department: Dr. Amelia Lyons, Elizabeth Klements, Marie Oury, Diana Dizon, and Evan Murray
      • UCF Research Librrians: Mr. Richard Harrison and Mr. Rich Gause
    • Discuss the stories of the Florida Soldiers buried in the American Battle Monuments Commission Cemeteries in France

    Military Appreciation Gave vs. Navy

    • Student Veterans of America – UCF Chapter, Army ROTC, Air Force ROTC, and Association of the United States Army (Sunshine Chapter) will be present during tailgating. Come out and support your local veterans, active-duty, and service-connected members.
    • Student Veterans will participate in the MARCH TO VICTORY representing each branch of the U.S. Armed Services
    • The Office of Military and Veteran Student Success will participate in the opening ceremony holding the American Flag on the field for the National Anthem
    • Purple Heart Recipient will serve as “honorary captain” for the coin toss
    • Student Veterans of America @ UCF will be honored as Student Organization of the Game

    Veteran Knights’ Roundtable: Conversation with UCF Alumni Veterans

    • Virtual Discussion moderated by the UCF History Department
    • Discussion focusing on the transition from military to student veterans, experiences during their time at UCF, and where they are today.

    Military and Veterans Graduation Recognition Reception

    • Wednesday, December 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: TBA
    • Honoring our Fall 2022 Student Veteran Graduates
    • Graduates who attend will be presented with UCF Student Veterans’ Graduation Stole and VARC Challenge Coin
