SALUTE – Veterans National Honors Society Scholarship

SALUTE – Veterans National Honors Society is offering its National Scholarship Program to members of SALUTE. The will offer 10 awards, two in each of the five GPA Tiers.  The Scholarship is only available to SALUTE Members who are registered for classes during the 2019 – 2020 Academic Year.

Description:

The purpose of the SALUTE National Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to Veterans, or service members, who are pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and alternative certification at accredited institutions.  An individual may receive a SALUTE Scholarship only once.  Award recipients who withdrew or graduated from college or do not maintain the minimum GPA will forfeit their scholarship.  Awards will be distributed for each GPA Teir in the following amounts:

  • Gold:     $1500 (2 Awards)
  • Alpha:   $1000 (2 Awards)
  • Bravo:     $800 (2 Awards)
  • Charlie:   $600 (2 Awards)
  • Delta:      $400 (2 Awards)

 

Membership Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be SALUTE Members before they apply for scholarships.  Each applicant must meet ALL of the following membership eligibility requirements:

  • Undergraduate Students need to have completed 12 semester hours and have at least a 3.0 GPA.  Graduate Students need to have completed 9 credit hours and have at least a 3.5 GPA cumulative;
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible U.S. permanent resident;
  • Be Honorably Discharged U.S. Militar Veteran, or current Active Duty, Reserve or Guard Member;

The application period opened on TBA.  All SALUTE scholarship applications and attachments MUST be submitted by TBA.  Winners will be announced at the NAVPA Conference in TBA and paid to recipients for the Spring Semester.  Winners will be asked for a picture and biography, along with a thank you letter.  Incomplete applications will not be considered; If there is not a viable candidate, no award will be given.

 

Required Materials

  • SALUTE Application Form (Page 3 of the pdf);
  • Unofficial Transcripts – submit most recent transcript;
  • One letter of Recommendation (Military: Commanding Officer/Department Head; all others: Instructor/Professors/Staff from a person unrelated to you, cour attest to your motivation, character, and integrity);
  • Official proof of Enrollment Verification
  • Essay: “Explain your transition from military to higher education and how you aim to uphold the core values of SALUTE:  Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, and Excellence” (The essay must be typed, double spaced, size 12 font and not to exceed two pages);
